I wanted to let you know that there are some major changes coming to Google regarding websites that do not encrypt and secure the connection between the user and the website.

The Background Story
There are two protocols for showing web pages – HTTP and HTTPS (The S stands for SECURE). 

Why is Google doing this?
Well, despite the many benefits of switching to HTTPS anyway, many site owners haven’t done so. Most sites, like Wandahome’s, don’t request particularly sensitive material. Most people look for security on a site when they do. However, for a while now, Google and other search engines have been on a mission to make the web more secure. Google has already taken action in this direction by announcing that HTTPS is a ranking signal, indexing secure pages over and above unsecured pages, just as they did with mobile friendly sites a couple of years ago.

This is big news for all of us online. 


When Will Google Be Implementing The Changes?

Beginning January 2017, Google Chrome 56, the latest version of the world’s number one browser, will start showing a warning for un-encrypted sites, labelling them as “not secure” when a visitor goes to the site to enter information about themselves.

According to the official announcement on the Google Security Blog, this is the first step in a “long-term plan to mark all HTTP sites as non-secure.”. Coming up next will be listings that will see HTTPS websites actually taking preference over non-secure HTTP sites.
With the changes being rolled out by search giant Google, others will follow suit quickly. This means we should consider our options.
 
What Can We Do?With all these changes now in progress, it’s a good idea to look at ensuring we switch from HTTP to HTTPS.

With Google’s prominent NON SECURE tag coming online now and rolling out over the next few weeks, there is likely to be a rash of worry online with both customers concerned at this new NON SECURE message and with traders who wish to keep their reputations intact. I want you to be ahead of the game.
